Franciscan Women defend AMCC Cross Country Championship Title

Erie, PA-The Franciscan University of Steubenville's women's cross country team successfully defended their 2008 championship title at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31st.

The women placed first out of the ten conference teams with 25 points. They were followed by Frostburg State with 40 points and Penn State Behrend who came in third with 85 points. The 6k course was deemed difficult due to the large amounts of mud and standing water throughout the course. The runners' finishing times averaged two to three minutes slower than their previous race at Oberlin College two weeks ago.

The women's team had six runners in the All-Conference team, including senior Erin Bliss who finished second overall in 24:19, sophomore Theresa Evans placing third in 24:22 and senior Monica Rust who came in fifth with a time of 25:08. Freshman Katherine Manion also made the All-Conference team by coming in sixth place with 25:54 followed by junior Lexie Mathis who placed ninth in 27:08 and freshman Danielle Bonneson who came in fifteenth with 27:44. This race marks the end of a successful Lady Barons' Cross Country season 2009.

"It has been a joy coaching this team" commented head coach Dr. Daniel Kuebler post-race. "These runners are talented, supportive of one another, and fun to be around. They have made me proud to be their coach."
