NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Franciscan women's cross country team opened the 2018 season with a solid fourth-place finish at the Fisher Invite, hosted by Westminster (Pa.).
Franciscan placed three runners in the top-15, including a third-place finish by senior Grace Galligan. The Springfield, PA native crossed the line at 24:03.10, six seconds faster than the next runner. Freshman Allyson Bryant turned in an impressive first collegiate race as she came in sixth with a time of 24:34.83 in the 6K race. Rounding out the top-15 finishers for Franciscan was freshman Mary Jo Schirger with a time of 25:41.36 to take 12th overall.
Freshman Elizabeth Atkins finished 26th overall and fourth for the Lady Barons as she crossed the line at 26:45.61 in her first collegiate race. Junior Carolyn Poston was the fifth Lady Baron across the finish line as she took 31st overall with a time of 26:57.68 to round out the scoring runners.
Freshman Ashlin LaFond took 33rd overall and was the sixth Lady Baron to finish as she posted a time of 27:08.53 in her first race for Franciscan. Sophomore Natalia Badia came in 35the overall and seventh for the Lady Barons with a time of 27:15.61.
Franciscan will return to action next Saturday as the Lady Barons travel to the nearby Bethany Invite in Bethany, W. Va.
